Poets House is a 45,000-volume poetry library and international literary center. Recently called "one of the treasures of the
city" by The New York Times, Poets House is in its 20th year of public programming.
The Reading Room is free and open to the public.
Lectures and other programs help to set the national standard for dialogue about poetry and culture, create a visible presence for poetry nationally, and build a wider audience for the art. Poets House serves over 1.25 million people per year, from cowboy poets to poets laureate,
and from serious scholars to casual browsers.
The number of Poets House members has grown rapidly in recent years and is now over 1,000.
Members have donated $40 or more to ensure free and open access to the Reading Room as well as the continuation of lectures,
seminars, and workshops sponsored by Poets House.
